PVC resin, full name Polyvinyl chloride resin, is an important organic synthetic material in China. Its products have good physical and chemical properties and are widely used in industry, construction, agriculture, daily life, packaging, electricity, public utilities and other fields. From the perspective of product classification, PVC belongs to the synthetic resin category among the three major synthetic materials (synthetic resin, synthetic fiber, synthetic rubber), and its global production and sales volume is second only to polyethylene. China is the world's largest producer and consumer of PVC.

PVC resin, is one of the five major synthetic resins. Because of its good physical and chemical properties, it is widely used in industry, construction, agriculture, daily life, electricity, packaging and other fields. PVC has good mechanical properties and impact resistance; it has excellent insulation properties; it is also non-flammable, high strength, weather resistance and excellent geometric stability, and has strong resistance to oxidants, reducing agents and strong acids. Of course, PVC also has some poor properties, such as thermal stability and fluidity.

At present, China's PVC production mainly adopts the calcium carbide acetylene method and the petroleum ethylene method. The main difference between the two methods is the method of obtaining vinyl chloride monomer (VCM). The former uses the calcium carbide acetylene method to produce VCM, which is then polymerized into polyvinyl chloride. This method of producing polyvinyl chloride accounts for 75% of China's total production capacity; the latter uses petroleum ethylene as a raw material and adopts the ethylene oxychlorination method to produce VCM monomer, which is then polymerized into polyvinyl chloride. This method of producing polyvinyl chloride accounts for 22% of China's total production capacity. With the development of the national economy, China's polyvinyl chloride production capacity has grown rapidly, especially driven by the consumption of polyvinyl chloride in the construction industry and the polyvinyl chloride processing industry, and the domestic polyvinyl chloride industry has developed rapidly.
